Most Access developers avoid web development because of the need to learn JavaScript/J Query.   Using the MS ASP framework also required C# as there are few coding examples in VB.Net and anyway VB.Net is not much like VBA. In 2020 MS announced a new framework called Blazor, that removed the need for JavaScript.   Does this simplify web development enough to make it feasible for Access developers?   Is Blazor a complete solution or do you still need other components? John will talk about what he had to learn in order to deliver a customer facing web-based interface to an application already running in Access / SQL. Slides and video are here. In July 2023 John adds: Blazor continues to evolve during 2023 and .Net 8 promises some new features that have got developers excited.  The Microsoft page ASP.NET Core updates in .NET 8 Preview 6 has the full list but is a bit ‘dry’. Every time a client says “Can we get people to enter data on the web for this?” my heart sinks. My brain doesn’t have enough space to remember what little it knows and also add information about C#, ASP .NET and all the other required topics. So, I’ve always chickened out at this point. Peter B has presented before on using PowerApps, which is a really interesting solution, but comes with a number of license-related headaches. Faced again last year with this problem on a project for Oxford University, I leveraged a number of technologies: * Cognito Forms for a powerful, flexible, no-code web form that can be embedded on a website with no licensing costs * Make – to automate moving the data to the tables, as well as running as many stored procs as you can eat, and * SQL Azure to hold the data Slides and Video can be downloaded here

(and how to avoid New Outlook, and other problems) John Heaser – 2024/06/20 John has created a .NET service to which users queue emails that are sent asynchronously.  It is independent of Access and can be used as a central service.  John will show you how it works and will share the code (C#) with attendees who would like to try it out.   Slides and video are here
